Postman who hated 'skinny' body shows off incredible transformation after gaining 70lbs

A postman who hated his ‘skinny’ body for years transformed himself and found new confidence after gaining 70lbs in muscle.

Mike Harrison, 35, from Hull, never had an athletic physique growing up and friends would make light-hearted jokes about his body.

He used to feel embarrassed going to gyms but after forcing himself to join one and changing his diet, he’s now fond of a selfie and proud to show off his muscles.

Years ago he would skip breakfast entirely – but now he eats a large chicken curry and rice in the morning and again for dinner.

Mike hated his body for years before hitting the gym

He’s also swapped the microwave pizza snacks for meal replacement shakes.

Mike said: “I was skinny and never liked how I looked.

“My mates used to make jokes in school and college, nothing that bad but still, it makes you notice it more”

In 2006, Mike made his first attempt to start going to the gym, “I was out of work and really just played video games all day and it was my brother-in-law that suggested it, just to get me out the house”.

He only managed to go a few times before he stopped because “it felt embarrassing lifting empty bars and the lightest weights”.

However, a few weeks later, he decided to go back on his own during the daytime when it was quiet.

He was embarrassed about lifting weights in front of people at the gym

For the following eight months, Mike was training five days a week.

“After six weeks I started to notice my body change; abs started to poke through stomach, gaining small noticeable biceps and pecs.

“A couple of months later, I noticed my back started to develop but my legs took a little longer. Eight months later and my physique had changed completely.”

Mike broke his jaw and was forced to take a break from the gym and within a couple of weeks, he had lost his gains. Mike said, “not knowing it would come back fast, it really blew my confidence and I stopped again.”

The transformation is astonishing

Mike’s now proud of his body

In 2012, “I started to approach 30 and didn’t want to have a ‘dad bod’. I got back in the gym and really stuck at it this time.”

Mike found that the gym, Xercise4Less, really helped by “being a big gym with a lot of equipment for a great price” and he has been training five days a week since.

He competed in his first bodybuilding show (PCA East Coast Hull Show) in 2016 and again in 2017.

Mike said: “I didn’t win either but where I came from even being up there is an achievement for me being the skinny gaming kid that couldn’t think he could do anything like that.”

He’s now a regular gym member

Mike has gone from 120lb in February 2006 to 190lb today and from a 28” waist and a size small in tops to mostly a size large and a 32” waist.

“I’m trying to gain another 10lb in winter months, see if I can gain a bit leaner muscle and then cut down next year and maybe do a photoshoot.”
